About Get SAFE
A safe place to be heard
Get SAFE (Support After Financial Exploitation) exists because too many people harmed by financial systems are left alone, unheard, and overwhelmed.
We support people before things escalate — when clarity, steadiness, and reassurance matter most.
You don’t need to be sure what’s gone wrong.
You don’t need to be ready to fight.
You don’t need to explain everything perfectly.
You just need a safe place to start.
What Get SAFE is
Get SAFE provides free, independent, pre-legal support for people harmed by financial exploitation, institutional failure, or systemic neglect.
We help people:
-
feel steadier after financial harm
-
make sense of what’s happened
-
organise information and evidence
-
communicate calmly and clearly
-
protect their mental wellbeing while seeking accountability
We support you to become an informed citizen investigator — not to rush you into confrontation, but to restore agency and dignity.
What Get SAFE is not
Get SAFE is not:
-
a law firm
-
a claims management company
-
part of the financial services industry
-
driven by profit or escalation
We don’t litigate.
We don’t pressure.
We don’t benefit from things getting worse.
Lawyers litigate. Investigators investigate.
Our role is to help you prepare safely before legal routes are needed — and sometimes to help avoid them altogether.
Why we focus on the pre-legal stage
For many people, the greatest harm doesn’t come only from financial loss.
It comes from:
-
being ignored
-
being dismissed
-
being expected to navigate complex systems alone
-
being pushed toward legal action before they’re ready
Get SAFE exists to fill that gap.
We help people slow things down, regain clarity, and engage institutions without sacrificing their health or safety.
Recovery comes first
Financial harm often affects far more than money.
It can disrupt:
-
confidence
-
sleep
-
identity
-
the ability to imagine a future
That’s why recovery comes first at Get SAFE.
Everything we do is designed to:
-
reduce overwhelm
-
restore a sense of control
-
help people feel grounded again
Accountability matters — but never at the cost of someone’s wellbeing.
How we use AI
We use AI carefully to support clarity, not replace people.
AI helps with:
-
organising information
-
understanding processes in plain language
-
drafting calm, professional communications
-
reducing cognitive and emotional overload
It does not give legal advice or replace human judgement.
People always come first.
Independence and integrity
Get SAFE is independent of the financial services industry and free from conflicts of interest.
We:
-
don’t sell products
-
don’t act for institutions
-
don’t profit from escalation
Our loyalty is to the people who come to us for support.
How we’re structured
Get SAFE currently operates as a charitable support project.
It is fiscally hosted by the Academy of Life Planning, which provides financial oversight and accountability while allowing Get SAFE to remain operationally independent and non-commercial.
This structure allows us to:
-
provide support immediately
-
keep services free to those who need them
-
build carefully and responsibly
We intend to transition to a standalone charity structure when funding allows.
Who leads
Get SAFE
Get SAFE is led by Steve Conley.
Steve is a former senior banking executive with experience at HSBC, RBS Group, and Santander. He now works independently in public-interest roles focused on transparency, accountability, and empowerment.
He is:
-
an Ambassador for the Transparency Task Force
-
Founder of the Academy of Life Planning
-
creator of tools that help people understand financial systems without selling products
This background matters for one reason:
Get SAFE understands the system — and is no longer beholden to it.
A survivor-led community
Get SAFE is built alongside people who have lived through financial harm.
Many who receive support later choose to “pay it forward” — by sharing insight, offering reassurance, or helping others feel less alone.
That is always optional.
And always respected.
A simple principle
Recovery first.
Empowerment before escalation.
Safety always.
