In high-stress advocacy cases, the biggest risk is rarely the opponent. It’s unmanaged help.
Supporters usually fall into three patterns:
• The Crusader — brings energy but can escalate too fast
• The Technician — brings insight but may overstep context
• The Rescuer — brings care but can burn out suddenly
None of these are problems. They become powerful assets when guided well.
Strong case leadership isn’t about controlling people. It’s about giving each helper a safe lane where their strengths support the outcome instead of destabilising it.
This is one of the most overlooked disciplines in citizen advocacy — and one of the most decisive.
Curious how others see this.
